Moxxi used to be a member of the Hodunk clan, but left in order to stop Ellie from becoming the clan wife. She then presumably raised Scooter and Ellie on her own using the money she earned by hosting fights in the Underdome, as well as bartending for different establishments. Apart from providing them with the bare essentials, Moxxi also taught her children about machinery, which is evident in Scooter's and Ellie's mechanical skills.

While she is rarely seen with her children in the Borderlands games, Moxxi's motherly nature can be seen when she interacts with players. She guides them through her quests and is careful not to throw them into too much harm.
