While Boba Fett has become an absolutely iconic part of Star Wars, many fans don't know his true name. The Legends continuity, formerly called the Expanded Universe, was the official Star Wars timeline until 2014 when it was rebranded and made into an alternate universe. While no longer the official ongoing canon, Legends did take its continuity far more seriously than the current timeline, as Legends would patch up its inevitable continuity snarls and ensure that the Star Wars franchise was consistent across all mediums, with Boba Fett’s origin being a prime example of this.
Boba Fett’s origin was shrouded in mystery until Marvel’s classic Star Wars comics offered some insight, establishing him as a Mandalorian warrior who deserted his people to become a bounty hunter who frequently took jobs for the Galactic Empire. The 1996 short story The Last One Standing: The Tale of Boba Fett delved further into his Mandalorian past, revealing that he’s a Journeyman Protector (elite law enforcement) whose real name is Jaster Mereel. This, of course, was almost retconned by Attack of the Clones’ clone origin story for Fett, but Legends material reconciled his different origin stories within a year of the film’s release.
