Black Knight's sword, The Ebony Blade, will appear in the upcoming Blade film, confirms a Marvel VFX supervisor. While only a minor role in Eternals, Dane Whitman (Kit Harington) was being set up for a bigger role in the MCU as the post-credits scene of the movie featured him pulling out a sword, which comic book fans knew as The Ebony Blade. The scene shows Dane going towards it after Sersi (Gemma Chan) has been taken by Arshiem the Judge into space, but before Dane can touch it, a voice off-screen asks him if he is ready for that. The voice was confirmed by Eternals director, Chloé Zhao, to belong to Blade (Mashershala Ali), marking the character's first appearance in the MCU.
Ali was announced to play Blade in July 2019, and while no release date has been set for Blade, development on the movie has been moving along over the past couple of years. In February 2021, Watchmen and PEN15 writer, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, signed on to pen the script, and in September 2021, Mogul Mowgli director, Bassam Tariq, joined the project. Da 5 Bloods star, Delroy Lindo, joined the cast of Blade in November 2021 in an unknown role, and filming is likely expected to begin filming in summer 2022.
