Mayim Bialik defends Bernadette's (Melissa Rauch) annoying voice on The Big Bang Theory. The CBS sitcom was already in its fourth year when it promoted both actresses to be series regulars on the show. Before them, however, Kaley Cuoco's Penny was the only female main character in the series. Since then, the group became good friends, especially as they collectively deal with their respective partners' issues.
Despite only becoming a primary character in The Big Bang Theory season 4, Bernadette's arc in the show progressed quite quickly. Initially starting as a Cheesecake Factory part-time waitress, she eventually became a full-time microbiologist at a big pharmaceutical company. Following a whirlwind romance with Howard (Simon Helberg), they got married, and by the end of the series, they already had two babies. Bernadette's signature trait in the sitcom, however, was her high-pitched voice. Admittedly, not everyone liked it, but Bialik now says that it's very important in terms of representation.

Speaking on THR's TV's Top Five podcast, Bialik talks about Bernadette's voice in correlation to her profession, saying that not many associate someone like her with a scientist. Because of that, it was a significant aspect of The Big Bang Theory as it propagated the idea that all kinds of women are thriving in various scientific fields. Read her full comments below:
