There is no shortage of video game theories out there. For instance, I believe that Nathan Drake’s “treasure hunting” unleashed the virus in The Last of Us. While that is not getting the traction I would like, another popular theory has just been confirmed. As it turns out, Deathloop is set in the same universe as Dishonored.
In the latest episode of the Xbox Podcast, Arkane Studio’s creative director Dinga Bakaba confirmed what many players already suspected. When the host asked about the connection between the two games, Bakaba explained that because of the different systems in Deathloop “not everyone has seen the same thing”, or even every room in the game. However, despite this, he says that the game’s community were able to pick up on the hints that Deathloop and Dishonored were connected.

He went on to explain that the two exist in the same universe. The folks at Arkane, “envisioned Deathloop to be happening in the future after Death of the Outsider.” While this was an interesting little thread the developer added to the game, Deathloop is still meant to stand on its own. As such, it is not overtly apparent when playing the time-bending shooter that the worlds are one and the same. Which is a relief, because I did not pick up on the connections when playing through the game.
While the clues about the connection are subtle - though not subtle enough considering everyone but me picked up on it - they are there. For instance, Bakaba notes that the logo on the side of Deathloop's Heritage gun is that of Dishonored's Dunwall Tower. While this is great news for those that suspected the connection, it does mean that every game I play from now on
