Known for his work on titles such as The Avengers, The New Teen Titans, JLA/Avengers, and several others, George Pérez has been a staple creator. After revealing he had been diagnosed with stage-3 pancreatic cancer in December, a myriad of fans, writers, and other artists expressed how much they value his contributions to the medium. Pérez’s sense of action and scale stood out from other depictions of superheroes, solidifying him as a key artist throughout the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. His career has continued to impact comics today, as younger artists are still influenced by his work.

In a post on Facebook on January 20th, artist David Mack unveiled a portrait in tribute to George Pérez. Known for his work on Daredevil and Echo, Mack’s recognizable style incorporates water color paints with lighter shades. The beloved artist is posed as he would be while working on an issue. In the post, Mack reminisced about memories with the artist, writing, “We climbed the #pyramids together in #Teotihuacan #Mexico. & I made ink drawings of him on the Pyramids. I have some wonderful memories of George over the last 3 decades. We signed next to each other in Chicago & #StanLee joined to say hello& they both lit up to see each other. Thanks for all the wonderful art, ideas, stories, characters, & joy, you have given so many over these years!
