Apple has enhanced its AppleCare+ for iPhone by including unlimited repairs for accidental damage.
Even though most people probably don't exceed the previous limit of two repairs per year, Apple's extension(Opens in a new window) provides some peace of mind for the more accident-prone iPhone users out there.
Before conducting your own drop test, though, be aware that service fees and deductibles still apply: screen or back glass repair comes in at $29, while "other accidental damage" will set you back $99. That's on top of the fixed-term or monthly fee for AppleCare+, which varies based on which device you own.
To purchase AppleCare+ cover for a new iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max costs $9.99 a month or $199 up front for two years, while the iPhone 14 Plus is $1 less per month (and $20 cheaper when you buy the two-year plan). Those carrying an iPhone 14, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, or iPhone 12 can get protection for $7.99 a month or $149 for two years; the third-generation iPhone SE, meanwhile, commands a price of $3.99 each month or $79.
Coverage begins immediately, and includes "unlimited incidents of accidental damage protection" due to "unexpected and unintentional events," according to the company's website.
The upgraded insurance policy extends to the rest of the company's device lineup, including AirPods, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac, as well as the less-handled Apple TV and HomePod Mini. AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss, meanwhile, is still limited to two incidents in a calendar year. So try not to leave your phone in an Uber more than twice.
