The Cupertino-based company has announced that it will stop support and service for older iPhone models, labelling them as vintage, according to The Sun.
As per Apple Support pages, "Products are considered vintage when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 5 and less than 7 years ago." The company added, "Products are considered obsolete when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 7 years ago." Therefore, people with older devices will be ineligible for repair and support from the company as Apple "discontinues all hardware service for obsolete products.”
Apple has issued a list of devices that will become obsolete this year. The iPhone models are:
· iPhone 4 (8GB)
· iPhone 4S
· iPhone 5
· iPhone 5C
· iPhone 6 Plus.
In the previous years, Apple had announced devices that had already become obsolete. The company has long stopped support and repair of these iPhones:
· iPhone
· iPhone 3G (China mainland) 8GB
· iPhone 3G 8GB, 16GB
· iPhone 3GS (China mainland) 16GB, 32GB
· iPhone 3GS (8GB)
· iPhone 3GS 16GB, 32GB
· iPhone 4 CDMA
· iPhone 4 CDMA (8GB)
· iPhone 4 16GB, 32GB
· iPhone 4 GSM (8GB), Black
· iPhone 4S (8GB)
Even though Apple makes their devices to last a very long time, once the official support ends, the devices stop getting software updates. This can cause a multitude of bugs, glitches and even affects the device performance. So, if your iPhone falls under the vintage or obsolete category, it is best advised to upgrade to a newer model.
