Meta has seemingly shut down its Facebook Watch app on Apple TV with the latest update. Announced in 2017, Facebook Watch is a video-on-demand service offering a collection of videos from various creators that are curated and personalized by Facebook. However, with its growing preoccupation with the metaverse, Meta is seemingly getting less interested in pushing its fringe products that never quite replicated the success of Facebook.
One of the casualties of Meta's increasing focus on the metaverse is its Portal product line. In an announcement earlier this month, Meta said that it will now stop marketing the smart displays to consumers. Instead, the company will now make them exclusively for enterprises, which typically use them for conference calls and other use cases. The Portal devices were initially announced in 2018 amid the Cambridge Analytica scandal and never really became popular as users were worried about bringing a connected camera to their home, especially from a company like Meta.

As reported by 9to5Mac, the Facebook Watch app no longer works on Apple TV following the latest update. According to a user report, launching the Facebook Watch app on the Apple TV shows a message that says, «The Facebook Watch TV app is no longer available, but you can still find lots of videos on Facebook at www.facebook.com/watch.» It is not immediately clear why Meta discontinued the Facebook Watch on Apple TV, as the company is yet to announce anything officially on this front.
