Apple only started selling the Studio Display on March 18, but some owners are already having to take them in for repairs.
As MacRumors reports, the Studio Display is receiving regular firmware updates from Apple, but some owners see a failure message appear when they attempt an update. The message reads: "Apple Studio Display firmware update could not be completed. Try again in an hour. If the problem persists, contact an authorized Apple service provider."
A growing thread on the Apple Support forums suggests this isn't an isolated incident. In response, Apple is advising some owners to take their display to an Apple Store or authorized repair center for repairs to be carried out. That's not what you want to hear for a product purchased less than a month ago, and especially one as big and awkward to carry as a 27-inch display that weighs nearly 14 pounds.
What makes this firmware failure so surprising is the fact the Studio Display relies on a hardware/software combination Apple is very familiar with. There's an Apple A13 system-on-a-chip at the heart of the display and it runs on iOS.
