has less-than-stellar words to describe his brief stint in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Hopkins, the 2-time Oscar-winning actor, portrayed Odin in Thor, Thor: The Dark World, and Thor: Ragnarok. He was the King of Asgard and the father of Thor and Loki. He reflected on his time in the MCU, describing it as a “No Acting Required” role.
“They put me in armor; they shoved a beard on me. Sit on the throne; shout a bit,” he recalls to The New Yorker. “If you’re sitting in front of a green screen, it’s pointless acting it.” Hopkins may feel this way about a few of the other blockbusters he’s been a part of in recent years, such as Red 2 and Transformers: The Last Knight. However, his Oscar-winning roles in The Silence of the Lambs and, more recently, The Father, are more than able to compensate for his less memorable performances.
Captain America: Brave New World releases in theaters on May 8, 2024, for those who enjoy the Marvel Cinematic Universe more than Anthony Hopkins. It will star Anthony Hopkins as Sam Wilson/Captain America, alongside Harrison Ford, Liv Tyler, Danny Ramirez, and Tim Blake Nelson.
Meanwhile, Anthony Hopkins’s next movie will be Rebel Moon, an upcoming Netflix space opera directed by Zack Snyder.
