Players of Animal Crossing: New Horizons have launched a petition asking Nintendo for more free updates to the 2020 game. Nintendo confirmed that last year's November 2.0 update would be Animal Crossing's last substantial free content release, and while it added a plethora of new game features, many have already grown tired of the offerings.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the most successful release in the series to date, but lots of players are unhappy with the current state of the game. Once the core gameplay loop is completed, users are given free rein over their island, and can decorate, design, grow crops, and more. However, tasks can be repetitive, leading to fan frustrations and plenty of players hoping for additional new content. The 2.0 update launched alongside the Happy Home Paradise paid DLC, but similar to the main game, Happy Home has been criticized for repetition and a lack of gameplay. While Animal Crossing's seasonal events still take place, they offer the same gameplay each year, causing many to ignore them altogether.

Fans have now taken to Change.org to petition Nintendo for new Animal Crossing: New Horizons updates. Started by user Trenton Gallagher, the petition is slowly gaining traction, and calls for future updates similar to the large 2.0 addition. Gallagher cites the game's impressive sales figures as just one of the reasons why Nintendo should continue to support the game with substantial updates "rather than calling it quits."
