Gollum actor, Andy Serkis, currently possesses a coveted prop from his time filming The Lord of the Rings. J. R. R. Tolkien’s novels finally received the cinematic exposure deserved after Peter Jackson decided to take on the project over 20 years ago. Serkis, along with a star-studded cast including Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, and many other notable actors, brought Tolkien’s characters and stories to life in a way that had not been done before. The original trilogy was so successful that it presently holds the record for winning the most awards in cinematic history, inspiring further Tolkien-related films like The Hobbit trilogy and upcoming Amazon series.
Jackson's LOTR trilogy follows the expedition of a band of Hobbits and their allies as they attempt stop the rise of Sauron. To do so, The Fellowship has to face a perilous journey through Middle Earth to destroy The One Ring in the fires of Mordor. In the films, Serkis portrays Gollum, a disfigured hobbit who has been corrupted by the ring. Gollum has dual personalities and serves as both a faithful companion and murderous antagonist to the Hobbits. The character’s obsession with the ring ultimately leads to his death and the destruction of it.

It took almost eight years to complete filming the LOTR trilogy. The prolonged time spent interacting with fellow cast members created a strong bond between the actors and the films. Most members of The Fellowship got matching tattoos to commemorate their time on the project.
