An Xbox Game Pass ‘Family Plan’ is reportedly coming soon
An Xbox Game Pass ‘Family Plan’ is coming soon, according to a new report.
Windows Central says its sources claim the plan will allow multiple users in one household to access the service, in a similar fashion to Spotify and Nintendo Switch Online’s family plans.
“According to trusted sources familiar with Microsoft‘s efforts, we can now confirm that Xbox is moving ahead with an Xbox Game Pass Family Plan, which should be set to launch sometime this year,” the site reported.
A specific launch window for the reported family plan was not given, with Windows Central simply claiming that it would be later this year.
The site claims that the highest tier of the plan will provide access for five players. The report doesn’t make clear whether PC Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass will be covered by separate family plans, or if there will be an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate family plan. Pricing is also currently unknown.
Microsoft recently revealed that it had paid developers and publishers “hundreds of millions of dollars in Game Pass license fees”.
PlayStation has also recently revealed that it’s revamping PlayStation Plus to a new three-tiered system, which will incorporate PlayStation Now (its Game Pass equivalent).
The new service will launch for PS4 and PS5 starting in June, structured across three payment tiers; Essentials, Extra and Premium.
While the Essentials tier offers the same benefits as the current PS Plus service, Extra will include 400 downloadable PS4 and PS5 games, while Premium will include cloud streaming access as well as a further 340 PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games (all of which are downloadable except PS3 games, which will be streaming-only).
