American Idol season 20 fan-favorite country singer Dan Marshall did not make it into the Top 11 of the competition, but he said that his journey has only just begun. Dan, whose full name is Dan Marshall Griffith, is a 24-year-old land surveyor from Chesapeake, Virginia. He played football at Virginia Tech for four years in the position of linebacker and said that they were the best four years of his life. At his audition, he told American Idol judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan that he only started singing at live performances five or six months ago, even though he had been singing his whole life, because he has always been really shy. He impressed the judges with his raw talent, singing and guitar-playing during his version of Garth Brooks' «The Dance,» which earned him a golden ticket to Hollywood.
Dan sailed through the American Idol season 20 Hollywood Week and made it into the Top 24. During the competition, he sang songs such as «Heaven» by Bryan Adams (Top 24), «Friends In Low Places» by Garth Brooks (Top 20) and «She's Got It All» by Kenny Chesney (Top 14), injecting each performance with his signature country sound. He captured the audience's hearts with his good looks, popular song choices and pleasant singing voice. Unfortunately, Dan did not receive enough votes to move into the American Idol Top 11, and he was eliminated from the competition along with Ava Maybee and Allegra Miles.
