AMD's Navi 44 "RDNA 4" GPU has appeared once again in shipping logs, revealing a package size that is 25% larger than Navi 24.
AMD is rumored to unveil its next-gen RDNA 4-based RX 8000 GPUs as early as Q1 2025. Much of the info surrounding these GPUs is unknown except that there will be only a few SKUs in the lineup. It's expected that AMD is going to come up with just Navi 44 and Navi 48 GPUs in the RX 8000 lineup and the Navi 44 package size will be really small.
@Olrak29_ revealed in an X post that the AMD Navi 44 "RDNA 4" GPU will have a package size of just 29 x 29 mm as mentioned in the NBD.LTD shipping manifestos.
From the details in the shipping manifest, we can see that the AMD Navi 44 "RDNA 4" GPU will utilize the BGA137 socket and in the small brackets, the size of the package is mentioned as "29x29".
Compared to the previous generations, the AMD Navi 44 "RDNA 4" GPU will be roughly 32% smaller than the NAVI 33, which is the smallest package size in the RDNA 3 lineup, which brings a 35x35mm package size. The total surface area for the Navi 44 will be 840mm2, which is the smallest since the release of Navi 24, which brought a package size of 28x24mm or 670mm2. Technically, the Navi 44 GPU should be compared to the Navi 24 chip as per the naming convention and has a 25% uplift in package size.
It should also be kept in mind that AMD's Navi 44 won't be a high-end GPU unlike how AMD usually makes its GPUs. The AMD Navi 48 will be faster than Navi 44 and therefore, it's expected that Navi 44 will be smaller in package size. We don't know the package size of the Navi 48 yet but it should be bigger since AMD's Navi 21/22, and Navi 31/32 have been bigger than the Navi 24 and Navi 33 respectively.
