Asobo Studio and Focus Home Interactive's action-adventure stealth game was in some respects an unexpected hit. The developer was probably most well-known for a number of game adaptions of Pixar properties. A Plague Tale: Innocence — an atmospheric narrative tale about 14th century France and the devastating Black Death — may have felt a little out of left field. However, the game was a success; with gorgeous environments, intriguing stealth sections and environmental puzzles, and a beautifully complex sibling relationship at its core. The sequel, A Plague Tale: Requiem, was a surprise announcement at Microsoft’s E3 2021 show, and fans have been eager for more news ever since.
A Plague Tale: Innocence had a nuanced and, at times, both dark and uplifting narrative that helped to center the stealth action; a trend the sequel will no doubt continue. A Plague Tale: Requiem has had a teaser trailer and a gameplay trailer released so far, so players have been able to see a little of what the upcoming game will offer. However, it's the screenshots that were released at the end of last year that has really given a strong indication of how the game will look and the variety of environments that players will encounter. It seems that Asobo Studio is determined to up the ante when it comes to aesthetics in the sequel.
