Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions are reportedly developing a live-action God of War TV series.
According to Deadline, the iconic action-adventure franchise is being adapted for TV by The Expanse creators/executive producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and The Wheel of Time executive producer/showrunner Rafe Judkins.
It claims Amazon is in negotiations with Sony to secure the streaming rights for Prime Video, although neither company commented on the report when approached by the publication.
The God of War franchise from Sony’s Santa Monica Studio debuted in 2005 and is one of PlayStation’s best-selling IPs.
Unlike previous entries in the long-running series, which were inspired by Greek mythology, a 2018 God of War series reboot was loosely based on Norse mythology.
As of August 2021, Sony said it had sold 19.5 million copies of God of War for PS4. The game was released for PC in January and a sequel, God of War Ragnarök, will arrive for PS4 and PS5 in 2022.
PlayStation Productions is also working on a The Last of Us HBO TV series, a live-action Ghost of Tsushima movie helmed by John Wick director Chad Stahelski, and a Twisted Metal TV series from Deadpool’s writers, among other projects.
Amazon is working a Fallout TV series starring Walton Goggins and a Mass Effect series adaptation too.
