A Diablo 4 alpha test for Blizzard associates is reportedly in progress.
That’s according to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, who claimed on Wednesday that friends and family members of Blizzard employees are currently getting hands-on time with the game ahead of wider public testing.
“A bunch of people are playing an early build of Diablo IV right now thanks to a friends-and-family alpha test,” he said. “Players are under NDA, but I’m hearing mostly positive buzz.”
It was recently claimed that the Diablo 4 beta had been added to the Battle.net launcher in preparation for its release, which hasn’t been dated.
Diablo 4 is planned for release in 2023 and sign-ups for the beta opened earlier this year.
As part of an ongoing promotional campaign, selected tattoo shops are giving out free Diablo tattoos, with fans who get one being informed that they’ll receive early access to an upcoming beta as well as a digital copy of the game.
Diablo 4 was originally announced in 2019 for PC, Xbox One and PS4. Earlier this year PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions were also confirmed, with cross-play and cross-progression for all platforms.
In June, Diablo franchise general manager Rod Fergusson said Blizzard was “committed to delivering an incredible breadth of content after launch, for years to come, anchored around optional cosmetic items and full story-driven expansions“.
Earlier today Schreier reported that Blizzard and Chinese gaming giant NetEase have cancelled an unannounced World of Warcraft mobile game following a financial dispute.
According to Bloomberg, the title was going to be a massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in the same universe as World of Warcraft.
