A Cyberpunk 2077 Game of the Year edition is planned for release in 2023
CD Projekt has reportedly confirmed plans to release a Cyberpunk 2077 Game of the Year edition in 2023.
President and joint CEO Adam Kiciński revealed plans for the new edition of the game during a presentation at the WSE Innovation Day, according to Polish site Stockwatch.
It will be released in 2023, shortly after the launch of Cyberpunk 2077’s first and only expansion, Phantom Liberty.
“This is the natural order of things,” Kiciński said. “It was the same with The Witcher, which after both add-ons was finally released as a Game of the Year Edition and has been on the market in this way ever since. The same can be expected in this case.”
Phantom Liberty is billed as “a spy-thriller expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 set in an all new district of Night City”.
Set for release on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, it will feature the return of Johnny Silverhand, the character played by Keanu Reeves, alongside a new cast of characters.
Phantom Liberty was announced in September, when CD Projekt also confirmed it had made the “difficult decision” not to develop it for PS4 and Xbox One “as the scope for the expansion makes releasing it for previous-gen consoles technologically challenging without compromising player experience”.
Strong Cyberpunk 2077 sales drove record third quarter financial results for CD Projekt, the company said last week.
The open-world RPG saw a spike in player numbers in September coinciding with the launch of its major 1.6 patch, a half-price discount on Steam, and the Cyberpunk Edgerunners release.
CD Projekt claimed in September that the game was attracting over one million players daily and that it had surpassed 20 million sales – up from 18 million reported by the company in April.
