Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Project Red recently dropped another trailer for Phantom Liberty, an upcoming DLC for the game. However, one of the developers confirmed that it would not include the multiplayer mode that many players have been hoping for.
It was speculated to be similar to GTA V's multiplayer mode, where the single-player mode allows players to live out the storyline, while the multiplayer lets them build their own character and indulge in activities. Although both modes are set on the same map, they're mutually exclusive.
Based on an exclusive interview with Eurogamer, Cyberpunk 2077 senior quest developer and coordinator Philipp Weber mentioned that they had to do away with the overall multiplayer title due to the buggy launch. Their priority was to allow the main experience of the title to run seamlessly for the entire community. He said:

However, in an investor presentation about a year ago, Adam Kiciński, President and Joint CEO of CD Projekt Red, mentioned that they were focusing on creating a technology that would allow them to take all their franchises online sometime in the near future. He said:
He further added that the original identity of CD Projekt Red as a company that makes AAA single-player titles would remain intact. However, their long-term outlook for online aspects is changing. While the company is taking steps to ensure that they're prepared to integrate online aspects into their titles, they did not want to lose out on their "single-player DNA" either.
