The first-generation Apple AirTag was launched almost a year ago in April 2021 and since then we haven't heard about its successor yet like other Apple devices. However, according to a recent report by Apple tracker and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, we might get to see the Apple AirTag second generation, but only on one condition. The popular analyst has shared that Apple could develop the second-generation AirTag tracker only if the sales continue like this. As per the report, the shipment of Apple AirTags has gradually increased since 2021. He shared that the shipment estimates of AirTag reached about 20 million and 25 million units in 2021 and 2022, respectively. The tweet reads, “AirTag, which has not received much attention, has gradually grown in shipments since its release. Shipment estimations of AirTag reach about 20 mn & 35 mn units in 2021 & 2022, respectively.” This means the nifty device by Apple is actually selling well.
The analyst further mentioned that if the shipments continue to show healthy growth like this, Apple may launch the second generation of the AirTag. The product is designed to help users to locate their misplaced devices, keys, accessories, and luggage. However, it has been put to some controversial uses too like tracking a spouse, girlfriend or other such nefarious purposes. In fact, a woman used it recently to track a cheating boyfriend and then kill him.
The second generation of the AirTag is expected to bring plenty of improvements. However, there are no leaks and rumors on any expected features of the product.
Since, AirTag has been used for inappropriate activities, it can be expected that the second generation AirTag, may arrive with anti-tracking and other useful features.
