Jason Blum started Blumhouse Productions in 2000 and the company has put out some of the most impressive horror movies that fans have seen. The first big movie was 2007's Paranormal Activity and other stand-outs include Insidious (2011), Sinister (2012), Hush (2016), Get Out (2017), and The Invisible Man (2020). Chances are, if horror fans are looking at the year's big releases, most of them are going to come from Blumhouse.
2022 will be a great year for horror and there are four scary movies set to release in the upcoming months that fans are sure to enjoy, from a remake of a classic Stephen King story to a film written and directed by (and starring) B.J. Novak.
5 Underrated Blumhouse Horror Movies
Zac Efron stars in the Firestarter remake as Andy McGee, whose daughter Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) has magical powers where she can create fires with her mind. Complicating matters is the fact that the government wants to use her for their own purposes. Horror fans remember the original 1984 movie starring Drew Barrymore, who showed her amazing acting talent at such a young age.
While some Stephen King adaptations are awful, Firestarter is generally considered to be an entertaining movie, and it's interesting seeing a child character who has special powers. It will be cool to see how Blumhouse adapts this classic story for a contemporary audience. Blumhouse's original movies are always special and exciting, and now that they're delving into the world of remaking beloved stories, horror fans can't wait to see what the result will be. It will also be fun to see Zac Efron in a horror movie since that isn't his typical project.
