Meta-owned photo sharing app Instagram has reportedly grown its user base in India by 100 million users over the last nine months. Last year in February, the app had 210 million users in India and by November 2021, it hit the 309 million users mark. And now the social media platform is expecting to hit 400 million users by the end of the current month i.e, August 2022.
According to an Economic Times report, Instagram was the most downloaded short video social media app in India for the first half of 2022. The app had around 118.7 million downloads, while Facebook had around 86.6 million downloads. Other short video apps had 25-40 million downloads. The report says that the influencers, shopping and other marketing tools as well as Instagram's short video format, and reels has catapulted the growth of the app. Keeping in view the popularity of Instagram reels, Meta has even extended the duration of a reel upto 90 seconds. It has also introduced new features like collabs and Remix allowing users to make reels with friends or followers.
The news of Instagram growth comes after parent company Meta announced its first revenue decline as a publicly listed firm during its latest quarterly earnings reports up to June 30, 2022. It has reported a revenue of $28.8 billion for the three months ended in June, 2022. This is a 1% drop from the previous year's quarter.
