Rooney and Kate Mara are set to star in, a new movie from Werner Herzog. Per a report from Deadline, Herzog will write and direct the film.
Bucking Fastard marks the first time real-life sisters Rooney and Kate will work together on a movie. Rooney’s most recent credit was in La Cocina, a 2024 drama from Mexican filmmaker Alonso Ruizpalacios.
Before La Cocina, Rooney starred in Sarah Polley’s Women Talking, which won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. Rooney’s notable works include 2010’s The Social Network, 2011’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, 2015’s Carol, and 2021’s Nightmare Alley.
Kate, two years older than Rooney, has two films set to premiere at SXSW 2025: The Dutchman and The Astronaut. Kate also has a voice role in Prime Video’s Invincible.
Her recent TV credits include Class of ’09, Black Mirror, and A Teacher. Kate’s film career spans over 25 years, appearing in movies such as 2007’s Shooter, 2015’s Fantastic Four, 2015’s The Martian, and 2018’s Chappaquiddick.
