Martin Scorsese‘s movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Leonardo DiCaprio may skip out on a theatrical release, according to a recent report in the Puck newsletter.
According to the latest edition of the newsletter, the expectation for the mysterious movie is that it will end up going to “the highest bidder,” which could end up being a streaming platform.
The newsletter mentions that Netflix will not be offering up a big theatrical release should it win out, meaning that the film might end up with only a limited release should a streamer land it.
For Scorsese, this isn’t too much of a change in pace. While his 2023 film Killers of the Flower Moon was given a wide release, his 2019 film The Irishman, which Netflix distributed, was only given a limited theatrical release before moving directly to the streaming platform.
Currently, not a whole lot is known about the planned movie, but it is said that it will focus on a “ruthless Hawaiian crime boss” who is based on a real-life figure.
