The estimated budget for the DCU movie has been revealed. Clayface arrives in United States theaters in September 2026. The DCU movie is produced by James Gunn and written by Mike Flanagan.
It was recently announced that Speak No Evil’s James Watkins had been tapped to direct the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the DCU Clayface movie will have a budget of $40 million.
This is on the lower side of most comic book movies. Captain America: Brave New World, for example, has an estimated budget of around $180 million, while the exact budget for Gunn’s Superman movie is not known.
The 2019 Joker movie even had a slightly higher budget, as that was estimated to cost around the $55 million range. “[Clayface] is a Hollywood horror tale centering on a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant, only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay,” The Hollywood Reporter’s article says regarding the film’s plot.
No casting for the Clayface movie has been released at this time. It’s worth noting that Alan Tudyk voices Clayface in the DCU Creature Commandos series and that Gunn previously said that actors who voice major animated characters in DCU projects will also play them in live-action.
