The first Global Challenges of 2025 are here in as part of the Fidough Fetch Event. Following on from the holiday events, this is the first major event of the new year and brings two debuting Pokémon, making it worthwhile for all players to participate in. It takes place from Friday, January 3, 2025, at 3 pm until Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 10:00 p.m.
Global challenges offer trainers a different type of event than the regular weekly activities that take place in, such as 's Max Mondays. The Fidough Fetch Event had something for everyone, with new debuting Pokémon, increased spawns, boosted shiny spawns, and much more.
The Fidough Fetch Event has a different twist compared to most events like the recent holiday events in . While some elements of the event are available to all players right from the word go, the event's main featureis global challenges. For this event, players need to complete Nice Curveball Throws.
A new month for Pokémon GO means new Ditto disguises — here's everything you need to know to prepare for the January 2025 event from Niantic.
For every nice curveball you throw, one is added to the global total, and this is increased every time any player throws one. Once each reward level is completed, it will be unlocked, and those bonuses will be available for the remainder of the event. The overall number of nice curveballs that need to be thrown has not yet been confirmed. In other global challenges, this only happens once players have completed the previous levels.
To throw a nice curveball, you should wait until the circle around the Pokémon you are trying to catch is at its biggest to give yourself the best window for it to be a nice throw. Curveballs can be executed by spinning the ball before you throw it towards a Pokémon.
Throughout the event, there will also be event-themed field research tasks that will be available to all players. These will reward encounters with Pokémon featured in the event and additional items.
