As we prepare for next week's 10.0 announcement, we thought it would be worthwhile to go over our Shadowlands interactions with Ysera and the Green Dragonflight — for no particular reason other than we just like dragons.
Ysera's AfterlifeAfter her death in Legion, Ysera's soul was sent to Ardenweald where she rested within a Wildseed. Usually containing the spirits of Wild Gods, wildseeds are tended by the denizens of Ardenweald until they are ready to be reborn. Once the anima drought began, Ardenweald's groves started to wither and die, and many wildseeds were lost or else sacrificed for their anima — such as that of Ursoc. Though her wildseed remained safe, Ysera's rest was disturbed, her dreams plagued by nightmares. Soon after we arrived in Ardenweald, these nightmares grew so strong, they manifested around the young wildseed — and in the story chapter Visions of the Dreamer, we saw exactly the dreams and memories that troubled the former Dragon Aspect. Ysera's AnxietiesMany of Ysera's anxieties manifest during this quest, taking on hostile dragon forms: Desertion, Uselessness, Failure, The Unknown, Corruption, Weakness, Extinction, and, looming larger than the others, Azeroth's Demise. Some of these fears could easily relate to the Dragon Aspects losing their power — an event that occured at the end of Cataclysm. That would surely invoke a fear of the unknown, uselessness, weakness, and even extinction. And with the Dragon Aspects no longer around to protect it, Ysera must surely fear for Azeroth itself.
