Xbox head Phil Spencer has heard the rumors of a PlayStation version of Xbox Game Pass, and he believes such a service is inevitable. First launched in 2017, Xbox Game Pass provides subscribers with a vast library of titles to download and play for a small monthly fee, with new games being added every month. These games range from big-name franchises like the Hitman series to smaller titles like The Good Life, and new releases like Halo Infinite’s single-player component have bolstered the service’s membership numbers over the past few months.
Rumors have already started to circulate that Sony is currently working on its own answer to Xbox Game Pass for PlayStation consoles, with former God Of War and Twisted Metal creator David Jaffe suggesting that such a service is in the works last April. While official details about this supposed subscription service (which is said to be in development under the working name “Spartacus”) are still scarce and unconfirmed, rumor has it that it will feature games from past PlayStation consoles, which would be a boon to players wishing to jump back into older titles but are unable to because of the PlayStation 5’s lack of backward compatibility with games from before the PlayStation 4 era. More recently, Sony started pulling physical gift cards for its PS Now subscription service from circulation in countries like the US and the UK, adding more fuel to the speculation that a new service is coming to replace it.
