Xbox has confirmed plans to participate at Gamescom 2022.
“Following our recent Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, we’re excited to confirm that Xbox will be back on the show floor at Gamescom 2022 in Cologne, Germany,” the company said in a message sent to press today.
“Fans in Europe and around the world can expect updates on some announced games coming to Xbox in the next 12 months and a chance to hang out as a community again (in person)!”
Xbox said it will provide more details on its plans for the show in early August.
Gamescom’s organisers have claimed that over 250 companies will attend this year’s event, but at the time of writing, only a handful of other major publishers including Ubisoft, Bandai Namco, THQ Nordic and Koch Media have publicly confirmed plans to participate.
Sony Interactive Entertainment, Nintendo, Activision Blizzard and Take-Two are among the major publishers who have said they will not attend the show.
VGC understands that one issue is that many publishers have simply stopped planning pre-release game demos since the Covid-19 pandemic, such as those made available at events like Gamescom, and thus would have little to show at a big public event.
Gamescom 2022 is set to take place from August 24-28 and will be a hybrid event held on-site in Cologne and simultaneously online.
During the Xbox and Bethesda Games showcase in June, Microsoft released a list of 50 games that it said will be coming to Xbox and PC over the next 12 months, 43 of which will be available via Game Pass.
