Xbox Game Pass is officially coming to Samsung TVs this month
Xbox Game Pass will finally come to Samsung TVs this month, Microsoft has announced.
One year on from the feature’s announcement, the Xbox app will launch on 2022 Samsung Smart TVs in 27 countries on June 30, allowing users to play cloud games without a console.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members will be able to access their games library using the app, while non-members will be able to play Fortnite for free.
Users will be able to connect a Bluetooth-enabled controller such as the Xbox Wireless Controller, DualSense or Amazon Luna pad, and also use a Bluetooth-enabled headset.
In a pre-briefing supplied to media outlets, Microsoft said it was bringing the Xbox App to Samsung Smart TVs “first”, and intended to explore other TV partnerships in the future.
“We’re super excited by what this next step means for all you gamers out there,” it said in a statement. “With this rollout, we’re making it easier than ever to play games on the devices you already own.”
Microsoft first confirmed plans to bring Xbox cloud gaming to internet-connected TVs last summer. Speaking in June 2021, the company said it was working with global TV manufacturers to embed the Xbox experience directly into internet-connected TVs, and building its own streaming devices.
Microsoft partnered with Samsung to bring Xbox cloud gaming to the electronics company’s products in 2020, and Xbox boss Phil Spencer has previously hinted at plans to bundle Xbox Game Pass with TV streaming sticks.
It was also recently claimed that, within the next 12 months, Microsoft plans to release an Xbox streaming device similar to an Amazon Fire Stick or a Roku-like puck.
