«Stone Cold» Steve Austin wrestled his first match in 19 years at WWE WrestleMania 38, but that may not be the last time he laces up the boots. Following the close of the big two-night spectacular known asWrestleMania, WWE devotees are riding high on the usual post-show adrenaline rush. A big reason for that in 2022 is the Texas Rattlesnake actually wrestling, as rumors suggested Austin might compete at WrestleMania for the first time since 2003, but WWE and Austin himself seemed to be downplaying the idea that it would happen.
Austin's return to the ring was a well-planned surprise, as while taking part in Kevin Owens' interview segment The KO Show, the Canadian heel challenged Austin to an impromptu match, and the WWE Hall of Famer accepted. What followed was less a wrestling match than it was a wild brawl, with fighting in the crowd, tables, chairs, ATVs, beer, and the usual craziness that accompanied many of Austin's signature performances throughout the Attitude Era. This surprise performance was quite the spectacle, and delighted the nearly 80,000 people (allegedly) in attendance in Dallas, Texas and the millions watching live on Peacock or the WWE Network.

Before the match with Owens began, Austin pointed out that he had wrestled his first-ever match in Dallas, so it made sense to wrestle his final match there as well. He then, in classic «Stone Cold» fashion, asked the crowd to give him a "Hell Yeah!" if they wanted to see him wrestle. Austin then popped up again during WrestleMania night two, stunning his old nemesis Vince McMahon, wrestler Austin Theory, and former NFL star Pat McAfee.
