A lot of people have struggled with today’s Wordle and have even lost their winning streaks to it.
If you’re an avid Twitter user, chances are you’ve already seen Wordle 270 trending today. While Wordle remains a very popular pastime, it only seems to garner attention nowadays when a particular puzzle proves to be more difficult than players expected.
That’s precisely what’s happened today, with many players stressing out over failing or nearly failing to guess the right answer. Many have even lost their winning streaks because of it and are naturally upset.
From a quick scout through shared results, a lot of people were able to deduce all but the first letter of the word and left flailing at what it could possibly be. Surely then, today’s Wordle must be some deviously obscure answer that only an obsessive wordsmith would know.
Actually, no, as today’s answer (last chance to avoid spoilers) is ‘cater,’ as in to provide food at an event. It’s not even a word that’s only really used in America or the UK, which makes it less controversial than ‘bloke’ from a few weeks ago.
Other Wordle players would agree, with some expecting it to be much more difficult after seeing it trending on Twitter. Since it was the first letter that tripped people up, they most likely went for more commonly used words like ‘water’ and ‘later.’
There has been this presumption that Wordle has become much harder ever since it was bought by The New York Times, which it has expressly denied. Even so, it’s led to a spike in cheating.
Other Wordle controversies including the addition of hidden ad tracking software on the game’s website and the shut down of a fan-made Wordle archive.
