March 15th's Wordle answer could ruin a player's long-standing streak, but with the right starting word and a few hints, anyone can get today's word. Wordle is a once-a-day word-guessing game that has slowly become a staple in many people's morning routines. Utilizing the old hint mechanics of games like Mastermind, Wordle has players guess a single randomized five-letter word within six chances.
The gameis played on a 5x6 grid of boxes, players begin by inputting a strong starting word, Wordle then provides hints to the correct answer by highlighting the boxes. If a box is highlighted in green, then the letter is in the correct position, yellow means the letter is correct but in the wrong position, and grey means the letter is not used at all in the correct answer. Using these clues, players continue to guess new words until they get the correct answer, or run out of guesses. Normally any five-letter word can be used, but Wordle also provides a 'Hard Mode' which limits the player's choices based on the previous hints given. This can be accessed through the options menu in the top right corner and requires a little more critical thinking to solve.

Arguably the reason for Wordle's popularity is its social media sharing ability. After a puzzle is completed players have the option to copy their results and post them on any of their chosen social media platforms. Wordle uses small colored emoji boxes to show the progression of guesses that the player attempted without actually spoiling the words used. This small feature drew in more and more players to the game out of curiosity and eventually led to the original version of Wordle being sold to The New York Times
