Marvel has been treating Avengers: Endgame as if it were the final Avengers film, and there's actually a good reason for this curious strategy. Three years after its release, Endgame remains the most successful superhero film of all time and the second-highest-grossing film in history behind only Avatar. However, so far there has been no news on Avengers 5, and that includes no mention of a planned release date or a director attached to the project.
This is the first time since the beginning of the MCU that audiences aren't sure exactly where the franchise is headed and when there will be another Avengers film. To date, the coming-together of the Avengers has always been the culmination of each of the MCU's phases, a tradition that has already been altered in MCU Phase 4. So far, solo theatrical films and Disney+ shows have been all the franchise is putting out there, with the closest to crossover events being movies like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

After the unparalleled box office success of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, it might sound curious that so little is being heard about the next Avengers film. However, considering how the films leading up to the conclusion of the Infinity Saga have had to deal with the ever-increasing anticipation for the eventual battle against Thanos for the Infinity Stones, it makes sense that Marvel is treating Endgame as if it were the final Avengers movie.
