Ethan has spent the latest Welcome to Plathville season trying to embrace his years of childhood trauma. For years Ethan has alternated between rage and sadness as fans have watched him fight for his freedom and marriage. Ethan has never had control over his own life since his mother, Kim, often controlled her children with power plays. After marrying Olivia, he learned moving out of his family home would not be the easiest transition. Finally, Ethan and Olivia seem to be in a good place which seems like the perfect time for Ethan to confront his parents.

There is no doubt that Welcome to Plathville fans believe Ethan was controlled by his parents. He and Olivia started dating back in 2017 and were essentially forced to get married in 2018, so they could continue to speak to one another. Olivia and Ethan met at a Christian camp and were only allowed to write letters to one another. Phone calls were limited, and visits were off-limits. From day one, Olivia and Ethan knew they were being controlled, especially after Kim tried to plan her son's wedding as if it were her own.
