On March 29, 2021, EA Sports officially announced that it was getting back into golf games. The company that previously released titles such as Tiger Woods PGA Tour and Rory McIlroy PGA Tour unveiled plans to release EA Sports PGA Tour, which will be available for next-gen consoles and feature some of the world’s best golfers and most popular courses. When will this new title officially go live? Here’s what we know so far.
At the time of the release announcement, EA statethat the title, which will use EA’s Frostbite engine, was in the development stage. EA did confirm that the new game would include a career mode and PGA courses, Electronic Arts did not confirm a release date at the time. Instead, EA stated in late March that it would provide a release date in the “coming months.”
In May, EA updated the timeline for the new game. Electronic Arts announced on May 17 that all four Major championships for the PGA Tour will be in the new game. In that same announcement, EA Sports confirmed that EA Sports PGA Tour is slated to launch during the Spring of 2022. That, however, was pushed back in November. EA announced via Twitter on November 3, 2021 that EA Sports PGA Tour would be delayed indefinitely.
A new launch window was given by Electronic Arts on March 22. EA Sports PGA Tour is now slated to release during the Spring of 2023, meaning that the title will be delayed by at least a year as EA continues to work on the new franchise.
The battles between EA and Take-Two have cooled in recent years, but thanks to Electronic Arts re-entering the golf scene, it looks like the war between the two titans has heated up once again.
