God of War utilizes many Norse myths throughout the game, but dwarves are surprisingly uncommon throughout the Nine Realms. During God of War's story, Kratos and Atreus encounter many mythological threats aside from the Asgardian deities pursuing them between realms. However, there are only two dwarves who appear and can be interacted with. Unfortunately, players aren't given a clear picture of what happened to the dwarves in God of War without exploring the world or completing various side quests.
God of War explored Norse mythology, leaving Greek and Roman mythos behind for the first time in the series. After Kratos eradicated the Greek gods and flooded their lands, he fled to the Norselands. He met a woman named Faye, married her, and sired a son named Atreus. The family spent most of their life secluded in a forest until Faye passed away due to unknown circumstances. Kratos and Atreus then began the difficult journey of traveling to the highest peak of the realms, battling gods and monsters to reach their goal. Along the way, Kratos and Atreus meet a few dwarves but rarely encounter others.

The first two dwarves players meet are Brok and Sindri, two side characters in God of War that provide Kratos and Atreus with armor and weapon upgrades. It's later learned that Brok and Sindri are brothers, estranged due to creative differences in their line of work. Brok and Sindri also created the Leviathan Axe for Laufey, whom Sindri had feelings for. Their service to Kratos and Atreus extends beyond hardware, as the pair eventually opens secret passages between the realms for the father and son to use.
