Viking mythology has been all the rage in video games of late, and you'll soon be staving off Ragnarok in Square Enix's take on the Norse end of the world. In Valkyrie Elysium, it seems you'll play as one of the mythological warrior women, tasked with battling the end of the world with a combination of fast-action melee combat and devastating magical attacks.
Square Enix debuted the game during Sony's March State of Play livestream, and you can watch the trailer below. It gives a quick sense of combat and gameplay, which looks reminiscent of action titles such as Devil May Cry or even the combat of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, but with a heavier emphasis on combos and traversal. It also looks as though you'll fight alongside a computer-controlled companion, although details about Valkyrie Elysium are pretty thin.
Story looks like a fairly major focus for the game as well, with the trailer concluding with a tease that the player character might not be the only Valkyrie wandering the world beset by Ragnarok. Valkyrie Elysium is set to release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2022.
