The race to be the UK’s top-selling console in 2022 will come down to the last month, it’s been claimed.
Following the publication of an article on the best-selling games and consoles in the UK for November, GamesIndustry.biz head Christopher Dring tweeted that the Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 are almost neck-and-neck this year when it comes to total sales after 11 months.
“Which console comes out top in the UK in 2022 is going to come down to December,” Dring tweeted.
“Currently PS5 leads, but just 20,000 units separate the three main platforms. I couldn’t call it.”
Although PS5 is in pole position to be the UK’s top selling console this year, it continues to be affected by stock shortages and sold less than the Switch and Xbox Series X/S in November, a crucial month given Black Friday.
According to Dring’s article on GamesIndustry.biz, nearly 372,000 consoles were sold in the UK in November, showing just how small that 20,000-unit gap is.
Nintendo Switch took the top spot in November, likely due to a combination of Black Friday sales and the release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

It was closely followed by Xbox Series X and S, led mainly by an official £60 discount on Series S over the Black Friday season. In terms of individual console SKUs (specific models), Xbox Series S was actually the best-seller in the UK last month.
PS5 finished in third, but it too saw a 71% month-on-month increase in sales due partly to more stock being available, with a God of War bundle being the most popular choice.
