Upgrading the fox's stats in Tunic is essential for completing difficult dungeons and defeating bosses like the Librarian or the Seige Engine. There are six different items that players can use to upgrade various stats, including health and attack. Upgrading the fox can be done early on in Tunic. However, the items and what they're used for won't be revealed until players collect some of the pages for the instruction booklet.
Tunic, an action-adventure game similar to The Legend of Zelda, challenges players in a variety of ways, but one of the biggest puzzles is finding the instructions and deciphering what each page means. Most of the instruction booklet is written in another language unique to Tunic, so players will need to use the pictures and a few scattered words to figure out the secrets and mechanics in the game. For upgrades, players will need to find special items and offer them to one of the fox statues.

Upgrades will be more costly for each higher level, but players will earn more of Tunic's currency as they progress. The later areas include a larger number of enemies and some difficult bosses, which will give players more coins to spend. Once an item is found and players have enough coins, they can approach one of the fox statues that's used as a save point. While standing in front of the fox statue, players will need to open their inventory and choose which item to offer. The upgrade will be performed as soon as the item is chosen. All upgrades will need to be performed at one of these statues and it needs to be active for it to work. They're marked on area maps with a fox symbol, but maps are also part of the instruction booklet
