The creator of the character Tingle from The Legend of Zelda series finally admitted that the character is creepy. Originally appearing in The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, the strange green-spandex-sporting character has appeared in several games in the series over the years. Tingle has been so famous, or perhaps infamous, that he had his own spinoff games and even managed to make an appearance on a stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Tingle’s in-game purpose changes from game to game, though he is perhaps most well known for his original appearance, riding in on a red balloon to provide Link with maps of Termina and the surrounding lands in Majora's Mask. In a game series full of strange and quirky characters, Tingle stands out among Legend of Zelda NPCs. Despite Tingle’s father’s insistence that he grow up and act his age, the middle-aged Tingle still hopes to find a fairy and lives his life flying around on a balloon wearing tight green clothes and a pointy hat. References to this unique character have made it all the way to Breath of the Wild, where even though Tingle himself doesn’t make an appearance, the player can adopt his unique fashion sense if they purchase the DLC.
