No one can say that Overwatch 2 hasn’t had a rocky start. From server stability issues, DDOS attacks, balance problems, and a whole host of bugs, Blizzard’s sequel to their acclaimed team shooter has had a rough go of it. In the midst of all that, two of Overwatch’s fan-favorite characters, Bastion and Thorbjorn, had game-breaking problems so prominent that they had to be temporarily removed from the game.
In Bastion’s case, his kit was generally very buggy even during beta testing, and for a short period during the release of Overwatch 2, his damage output and bugged endless Artillery ultimate made for some hilarious results. Unless you were on the receiving end, of course.
Meanwhile, Thorbjorn’s issues were slightly less dramatic, but his Overload ability had allowed him to gain more armor than intended. This has resulted in an effectively immortal tank Thorbjorn that acted like a bullet sponge for his team.
As a result of both of these issues, the Overwatch dev team has pulled both heroes from the roster to tinker and fix them. Unfortunately, they haven’t offered a return date for either of the heroes, leaving the community scratching their heads and wondering when we’ll be able to play them again.
Fortunately, John Spector from Blizzard, who is the current Overwatch Commercial Lead, has taken to Twitter to let the community know that the two wayward characters will be returning to the fold with the next patch. The patch is set to deploy with the next maintenance cycle on October 25. Along with Thorbjorn and Bastion returning, this patch will also see the return of the Junkertown map, which has also been removed for a short while, as it was causing a few graphics performance issues for some players.
