Although almost nothing is known about , currently titled, it is one of the most highly anticipated upcoming titles. This is due to CD Projekt Red managing to maintain its reputation for crafting great games with amazingly detailed worlds despite the rocky start to life that suffered back in late 2020. Most of this reputation comes down to the immense success of 2015's Game of the Year winner,, even though prior titles in the series did relatively well, and ever since, fans have been asking for a fourth installment.
With Geralt of Rivia, trilogy's silver-haired protagonist, finishing his story at the end of the, it isn't clear where exactly CD Projekt Red is going to take the series, but the likelihood is that the fourth game will move away from the knight of Rivia. Many have said that making Ciri the protagonist of the series moving forward is the natural move, considering that she is a daughter figure to Geralt, but this invites a myriad of problems. Instead, could take a page from 's book with its protagonist.
Ciri became quite a beloved character after thanks to her father-daughter dynamic with Geralt, and with many franchises carrying on with a new generation, it does feel right to have the Lady of Space and Time as the lead; however, Ciri has been around 's story almost as long as Geralt. Ciri was introduced in the second book in series, and she already gets a satisfying ending at the end of the series. She gets pulled out of her happy ending to be in .
For the most part, the plot of repeats the general plot of books, with everyone wanting to find Ciri, from her father, Emperor Emrys, to Geralt's group, and the elven warriors of the Wild Hunt. All three of these parties are trying to get Ciri in the books too, for basically the same reasons that they have in the books. CD Projekt Red already has to retread just to get Ciri in the story, and will have to retread again, since the three endings of are based on what happens to Ciri.
