The Walking Dead star Lauren Cohan says there were “three or four” different ideas for Maggie spinoffs. After leaving the long-running zombie drama in season 9, Cohan made her triumphant TWD return in season 10. And Cohan’s Maggie of course remains a major character as the show currently navigates its way through its final season.
But Maggie’s story won’t actually end when The Walking Dead season 11 wraps up later in 2022. As fans recently discovered, Maggie and Negan will both return post-TWD in a spinoff show entitled Isle of the Dead. The upcoming TWD universe entry sees the enemies-turned-reluctant-allies heading to New York City where of course they wind up once again battling zombies – and perhaps each other.

But Isle of the Dead as it turns out was not the only Maggie spinoff idea that was considered by TWD producers. As Cohan herself revealed to ComicBook.com, various different plans for bringing back Maggie and Negan were run up the flagpole before the powers that be in the TWD universe settled on the New York City premise. Cohan said:
«I know there have always been three, maybe four options for how Maggie would end up in a spinoff. For Maggie or Negan there's been a bunch of ideas floating around. I think this story that Eli Jorne came up with, which is what we'll be shooting for season one of Isle of the Dead, was just really powerful and such an interesting way for fans to get to see these characters continue.»
Maggie and Negan are of course not the only TWD characters set to return in a future spinoff. As was revealed months ago, Carol and Daryl will also get their own spinoff show somewhere down the road. And 2022 will also see the arrival of the
