Nate Ruggles' proposal to Lauren Pounds in The Ultimatum was met with doubt and disapproval from fellow cast members and fans, but Lauren recently made it public that Nate did a proposal a do-over. The Ultimatum, which features six couples at a crossroads in their relationship, is Netflix’s newest twist on reality dating. Each couple has one partner who feels ready for marriage and issued an ultimatum to the other who is still hesitant about tying the knot. Nate gave the ultimatum to Lauren, because while Nate was prepared to get married, settle down, and have children, Lauren was still not certain—especially about having kids.
On the night the cast had to choose new partners for their trial marriages, Nate initially wanted to choose Shanique Imari. He felt they had a strong connection, but Shanique chose Zay Wilson. Lauren, on the other hand seemed to have formed a great bond with Colby Kissinger. Nate was not happy with Colby’s interest in Lauren. He expressed in a confessional that he wouldn’t want them living together. As soon as Colby declared Lauren as his choice for a trial wife, Nate got down on one knee and proposed to Lauren. Unlike Hunter Parr’s proposal to Alexis Maloney, the act was met with an awkward silence by the rest of the cast. It seemed like neither Nate nor Lauren were going to back down on their decision about whether or not to have kids and so the proposal came as a shock to cast members, who felt that their issues were still unresolved.
