As long-time players will already know, expansion packs for The Sims 4 typically add new game mechanics in Create A Sim and build mode. The Sims 4: High School Years is no different, and players can expect to get more build/buy items for their building needs after installing it.

The teen years for sims are all about discovering identities, likes, and showcasing talents. One way players can do this is by decorating their teen's rooms and purchasing skill-building items. The Sims 4: High School Years brings almost everything a teen could want in build/buy mode, and it is one of the first packs to include items tailored to the curved walls that are now in the game.
High School Years has new wallpapers, paint, and bricks for players to use on their builds. They're geared towards teens, so bright colors and intricate designs are highlighted with some of the options and all the high school architecture comes in the pack. In total, the pack includes eight new wallpapers and one flooring option.
There are a few residential fence and door options, but most of them are used for building the Copperdale high school. Players are able to completely customize the high school lot with these and base game items. There are also doors designed specifically for the curved walls included in the pack. In total, the pack includes seven doors, two gates, and three fences.
There are curved windows as well as some interactive windows and trellises. Sims can now enter or exit using the EZ Window and, if it is set on a second story, they can use the trellis to climb down. In total, the pack includes five windows, one wall decal, and four trellises.
