Marvel Comics is teasing some significant changes for Captain America, as a secret about the hero's shield will transform the hero forever. In a new preview for Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #1, Steve Rogers will learn the truth behind his iconic shield, which will change the way he views his past while impacting how he fights for the future.
There are few things more iconic than Captain America's shield. The Marvel Comics hero has sported a version of the patriotic weapon since his first appearance in Captain America Comics #1. While the original shield for Steve Rogers was triangular, the hero would soon swap it out for his current circular weapon. The Joe Simon and Jack Kirby created hero would wield the shield for more than 80 years in the comics into the present, where the only major change about it was that it was later retconned to be made from vibranium and not steel. Now, Marvel is teasing a new evolution for Captain America's shield.

Earlier this year, Marvel Comics revealed two new Captain America series spinning out of the events of April'sCaptain America #0. Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty by Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, and Carmen Carnero will follow Steve Rogers' adventures as the patriotic hero, while Captain America: Symbol of Truth by Tochi Onyebuch and R.B. Silva stars Sam Wilson's Captain America. In a new solicit (with cover art from Carnero) for the debut issue of Steve Rogers' new series, Captain America's shield will undergo some serious changes, causing the hero to reflect on his iconic weapon.
