It looks like the Marvel MMO from Daybreak Games and Dimensional Ink Games has been canceled. This news comes via a recent statement issued by End Global 7, Daybreak Games’ parent company. It states that development is discontinuing due to the “development risk profile, size of investment, and the long-term product portfolio strategy for the group.”
End Global 7 now plans to use the SEK 500 million to invest in its other titles like The Lord of the Rings Online and DC Universe Online. The company will also continue to invest in “new game opportunities with our first party, original IPs.”
Dimensional Ink Games is the developer behind DC Universe Online and the now-canceled Marvel MMO. While it seems strange for the developer to work on both a DC and a Marvel title, it actually made a lot of sense. And with the experience of one superhero-based MMO, it made plenty of sense that they would also work on a similar title with Marvel’s cast of characters.
The now canceled Marvel MMO was announced back in November 2021. End Global 7 held a presentation that featured many of its in-development titles. However, as we’re now aware, the Marvel MMO will no longer see the light. This is sure to be sad news to many, especially to those that were eagerly anticipating it. Frankly, it’s a bit strange to cancel it outright just six months after its announcement.
